In Greek mythology, Pandora ("full of virtues") was the first woman, done by Zeus like part of a punishment to Prometheus to have divulged to the humanity the secret of the fire. Epimeteo was the person in charge to give to positive characteristics to all and each one of the animals.

Nevertheless, when the turn arrives from the man, it is not left anything to give him. Prometheus, his brother, feeling who the man was superior to the rest of the animals, decided to give a gift to him that no other animal had. This way, Prometheus decided to rob the fire to Zeus and to give it to the man.

Zeus infuriated and created to Pandora, the one that was filled of virtues by different Gods. Hefesto molded it of clay and it gave form him; Aphrodite gave beauty him and Apolo gave to musical talent and the gift him to heal. Hermes gave then to Pandora a box him that never had to open, which filled it of curiosity. Prometheus warned to Epimeteo of not accepting no gift of the Gods, but Epimeteo did not listen its brother and accepted finally to Pandora, falling in love with her and taking it like wife. Until then, the humanity had lived a totally harmonious life in the world. Epimeteo requested to Pandora that never opened the box of Zeus, but a day, the curiosity of Pandora could finally with her and opened the box, releasing to all the human misfortunes (the plague, the sadness, the poverty, the crime, et cetera). Pandora along with closed the right box before the Hope also left, everything what it was inside, and the world lived a time on desolation until Pandora returned to open the box to also release to the Hope.

And it ran towards the men to say to them that he was not all lost one whom still they had left the hope. Pandora was put in way towards the place where every day dies the sun, it followed the footpath that is drawn by the nights in the skies and that lead until that place which the Greeks called the Earth OF the DEATH, that place where the sun is devoured each dusk by the ocean, that earth that the Romans in front of called FINIS-TÉRRAE the tenebrous sea, the decline of the world, the COAST OF the DEATH.

Pandora arrived at Galicia observed that finally the fire gift of Prometheus restrained the declivity of the light, that the sun returned to appear again day to day and called to that day winter solstice, great holiday, the God Light appeared again. Since then in all the Earth towns they festejaban that day of the new birth of light. They have spent many years and we have forgotten it, no longer we make bonfires nor we kept the fire of that day so that it illuminates all the year... But the Galician women to us, faithful to Prometheus kept the fire together with the Earth and to the water, privily, without the Gods of the Mount Olympus found out elaborated queimadas in their homes swearing in with Pandora not to lose the hope.

The daughter of Epimeteo and Pandora, Pirra and its Deucalión husband, son of Prometheus, was the two only people who survived the deluge that Zeus commanded on the humanity to destroy it, in the Greek version of the universal deluge.
