The Definitive Edition for Shadow of the Tomb Raider is here, for better or worse, the wait is over, the new content had a lot of controversy among fans, expectations were very high due to the filtered content a few months ago. With the sixth DLC update (The Grand Cayman), an eighth slot was displayed announcing “Coming soon” for a new challenge tomb (score challenge, time trial).

Leaks

Some fans research in the game’s files and discover document texts and even audios that references a new level in Croft Manor, including many classic references and post-game info for Shadow of the Tomb Raider. Below you can watch a video posted by Tumberski.

The leaks didn’t stop from the beginning, an alternative ending scene was in the initial game files, but soon replaced. The manor didn’t have green walls, but wood as in the classics and in Rise of the Tomb Raider. You can see a Jaqueline Natla letter, inviting Lara to the Scion Tower to do some kind of business, but what really hurts is the inclusion of the dual guns on top of a small table next to her office desk. Next, you can watch this scene, upload by Daft Raider.

Speaking about dual guns, they were also found to be part of this DLC, we don’t know if either as a collectible or to equip them as a weapon). What could it have been? We may never know, but as a personal opinion, because it was placed on the challenge tombs, it could of be the attack course area inside the manor (as in TR2 and 3) where we had to move forward and resolve puzzles as previous DLCs, time trial and score modes. Could the dual guns may appear by then? Maybe unlock to use them in a new game plus? I’m afraid everything will remain in our fantasies.

Definitive Edition improvements

But well, you’ll wonder, what content has actually been implemented and what bugs have been fixed? Here is a my confirmed list:

  • New costume, “Croft Fitness”. This new costume inspired by the classic TR1 Croft Manor outfit, it doesn’t improve any skill in gameplay.
  • Remove outfit restriction. Now, once you defeat Amaru at the end of the game, if you have disabled this option in the game settings, you will be able to return to Paititi with any outfit, it will no longer be mandatory to wear tribals. This restriction is not available if you start a new game plus.
  • Improved the sharpness of game textures with the new AMD FidelityFX CAS technology, available in the game settings (not all graphics cards seem to support it).
  • Fixed some flashlight activation errors.
  • When you open the game map, a small music sounds for some seconds.
  • Minor fixes, even though many people still find most unresolved errors.

Below you can see a screenshot I took on the PC version so you can see what the only new visual and playable content, the Croft Fitness outfit.

What did you think of the Definitive Edition update? Do not hesitate to comment on our social media! Soon I’ll start uploading Shadow of the Tomb Raider cutscenes with gameplay. I waited this long in case we could get any improvements, both visual and gameplay.
