This section presents the main characters of Tomb Raider (1996), along with their biography and image gallery. This game was the first game of the saga and developed by CORE Design.

Lara Croft

Lara Croft was born in Parkside Hospital (Surrey) on February 14, 1968, her parents were Amelia Croft and the renowned archaeologist Lord Richard Croft, Earl of Abbingdon.

Between the ages of three and six, she attended the Abbingdon Girls School, where it quickly became clear that she was an exceptionally gifted child.

At the age of nine she survived a plane crash in the Himalayas that took the life of her mother. In perhaps the first story of her prodigious indomitability, she somehow survived a solo ten-day trek across the Himalayan mountains, one of the most hostile environments on the planet. The story goes that when she arrived in Katmandu she went to the nearest bar and made a polite telephone call to her father asking if it would be convenient for him to come and pick her up.

For six years following the plane crash, Lara rarely left her father’s side, traveling around the world from one archeological dig site to another. During this period she was ostensibly given a standard education from private tutors, but it would probably be more accurate to say she was her father’s full time apprentice.

When Lara was fifteen, her father went missing in Cambodia. Extensive searches by the authorities and Lara herself turned up human remains that could not definitively be identified. Since Lord Croft’s body was not officially recovered, Lara could not directly inherit the Croft title and Lara was thrust into a bitter family feud over control of the Abbingdon estates with her uncle Lord Errol Croft. Lara eventually won the legal battle, and took possession of her inheritance but at the cost of a deep rift in the Croft family that left her estranged from her living relatives.

Deek

His profession is to guide in expeditions where the risk is high, he can ascend to the high of a mountain with bad climate whenever they pay him well. He helps Lara to arrive to the high of the summit in Peru, although after opening up the doors of a mysterious cave, he’s attacked by some wolves and he dies.

Jaqueline Natla

Jaqueline Natla is the owner and CEO of Natla Technologies, one of the world’s largest electronics companies. She is the holder of several key computer hardware patents, and her research and development department is one of the industries most secretive and prolific innovators. Little is known about Miss Natla’s private life other than she never gives interviews and rarely makes public appearances. Colleagues and business rivals alike say she is intimidatingly intelligent and a demanding perfectionist.

Jacqueline Natla was one of the members of the 3 rulers of the ancient Atlantis. She was convicted for the bad use of the Scion powers, so she was trapped in a frozen capsule by Qualopec y Tihocan.

Larson Conway

Larson is a former United Marine Lieutenant with seven years Special Ops experience. He was given a dishonorable discharge after a violent disagreement with his commanding officer–the nature of which was never made public. Following his release from military prison, Larson put his military expertise to good use, forging an admirable reputation with private mercenary forces around the world. Recently he has taken a contact with Natla Technologies and that has brought him face to face with an old adversary from his past, Lara Croft.

While in the United States army respect his soldiers was won, but he’s low intelligence didn’t give him to be considered a good one official. He abandoned their career to go to Nicaragua with a gun in hand, where once he was working there with the American army, but this time with a less significant paper of official. It was in this mission when it meet with Pierre who was in an extra official excavation.

The same as Pierre, Larson felt as a mercenary, for what they formed together a perfect team.

Pierre DuPont

Pierre is one of Lara’s archaelogical rivals and in the history of the field, there is nobody that has chased the spotlight more than him. Publicly, he has been credited with several high profile archaelogical discoveries, yet like Lara, he has been accused of tampering with the sites before informing others of his finds. Though he sells himself as the consummate archaelogist, in the circles of rich collectors he is known for what he is, a treasure hunter who is adept at finding what people want– for the right price.

Pierre is good at what he does, but in the end he raids tombs for profit, not for any real love of the mysteries of the past.

Pierre stirred up the interests later in Lara, when Lara was young he showed up in Louvre with a great painting that he discovered in some of his adventures.

Pierre loved the interest of the media, he decided for his own means to win fame obtaining historical lost objects.

Often he coincided in their search with the same artefact that Lara looked for, for that they become into rivals. Lara was convinced that Pierre only thought about the earnings, and he would make all was in his power to stop her.

Kin Kade (Kold)

Kin Kade is Jacqueline Natla’s bodyguard. It is difficult to know what hold she has over him because he is as brutal and vicious a Killer as his criminal record shows. Kin Kade spent 15 years in jail after being apprehended by police in the middle of a vicious and disturbingly elaborate murder. He earned the name of Kold in prison where his sociopathic behavior and the unexplained deaths of several cell mates resulted in the majority of his term being spent in solitary confinement. Despite all this, his tenure in lock-up only seems to have refined his innate talents and, against fervent protest from the prison psychiatrist, he was released on parole into the custody of Jacqueline Natla.

Jerome Johnson (Kid)

Jerome Johnson (The Kid) was a small time gang leader in Los Angeles until his crew tried to car jack Jackeline Natla’s limousine. Natla’s bodyguard, Kin Kade, eliminated the entire gang but spared the Kid at his employer’s request; Natla needed a contact in the West Coast criminal underground and the fast-talking Kid fit the job description. The Kid holds a grudge against Kin Kade for the murder of his blood brothers but is just smart enough not to act on any retaliatory impulses.

Cowboy

He works to Natla for obtain the parts of Scion and to deceive Lara to obtain the fragments quicker.

Doppelganger

This is a very unique Atlantean which was created by Natla. It may be have been created when Natla somehow collected some DNA from Lara (possibly from a hair sample) and combined it with the DNA of an Atlantean, therefore explaining why the Doppelganger can anticipate Lara’s next move. The Doppelganger is an exact copy of Lara’s physicality but without skin. This Atlantean is perfectly harmless and yet dangerous at the same time. In addition to matching Lara’s moves perfectly.

A new Doppelganger created by Natla and improved, this time, she has skin and more similar to Lara, the only physical difference between Lara and Doppelganger and differs from Lara only in her hair colour, paler, veiny skin and wears her hair in the classic Tomb Raider plait. She also demonstrates independant thought in that while she can mimic Lara’s movement perfectly, she can also predict and thwart Lara’s attempts to kill her. She is also silent.

At the end, looks like Doppelganger didn’t die after the fall, instead of falling into the Eitr, she hit the ground falling very hard, she did not suffer from any injury.

Doppelganger is an slave of Natla and she does anything what Natla commands her, although Lara discover an ancient artefact that reveal the secret word to control the slaves, so she’s now from Lara’s part after wishing her the freedom, and to be able to Kill Natla for once and all.

Qualopec

Qualopec was apparently injured or disfigured for. Attached to his back are large, spider-like appendages which hang beside him. Along with Tihocan, Qualopec officially sentenced Natla to be frozen alive for attempting to tamper with the Scion. He died in his tomb, still facing his piece of the Scion in his chair. His guards were also mummified in their positions beside him.

Tihocan

Tihocan aided Qualopec in sentencing Natla to her punishment after attempting to tamper with the Scion. Tihocan was properly buried in his tomb in ancient Greece.

St. Francis later built his Folly, inhabited by Franciscan Monks, above the tomb.

He does share the same pointed hat-like clothing that all three of them (even Natla). Evidence in his body langaguge, appearance and voice make it seem like he was younger than Qualopec, and in the past someone who Natla saw as a kind of weakling or the ‘naive one of the three’.
