Today is a celebration day, as Embrace Group’s acquisition is completed for Crystal Dynamics, EIDOS Montreal and Square Enix Montreal (whose name has to be renamed), it became effective on August 26th, a process that lasted since May 2nd.
Embracer Group now owns these three developers, along with the rights to all their IPs, including Tomb Raider, Deus Ex, Thief, Legacy of Kain and more than 50 games previously owned by Square Enix Holdings Co. LTD.
These companies will be part of the 12th operating group under the leadership of Phil Rogers.
Square Enix sold these studios for a value of 300 million USD, and the entire legal handover and references are currently underway. Also, today we could see that in their online shop, they are practically giving away Crystal Dynamics games, such as Marvel’s Avengers or the Tomb Raider games, including collector’s editions, which in theory were sold out… for only 20 euros (although obviously at that price it lasted a very short time, they were sold out soon).
Exciting times are ahead, let’s hope it will have a very positive effect on the development of future games and their promotion.
