Artefacts

Discover a little more behind the artifacts of Tomb Raider Chronicles. In this installment there are 4 artifacts, one for each story told.

Philosopher’s Stone

The philosopher’s stone is made of a substance that, according to the followers of alchemy, possesses extraordinary properties, such as the ability to turn base metals into gold.

Its origin lies in an ancient alchemical theory that proposed to analyze the Aristotelian elements in terms of four “basic qualities”: heat, cold, dryness and humidity. According to this theory, each metal is a combination of these four principles, leading to the phenomenon of transmutation, i.e., the change in the nature of an element based on the modification of its qualities.

The philosopher’s stone, also known as the elixir of life, was eagerly sought after and coveted because of its supposed virtues, not only for the creation of gold, but also for curing diseases and conferring immortality. In the quest to make gold, alchemists sought a material that would facilitate the mixing of mercury and sulfur, as this was believed to be the correct way to obtain the precious metal.

In addition to pursuing the elixir of life, alchemists also sought a remedy that could be prepared in the laboratory and had the ability to cure all diseases.

Spear of Destiny

According to legend, the spear was initially the weapon used for the crucifixion of Jesus Christ. After Jesus’ death on the cross, the Roman centurion Longinus, in charge of making sure he was dead, pierced Jesus’ side with the spear. This act caused the tip of the spear to acquire extraordinary and destructive powers by absorbing the blood of Jesus.

In World War II, despite being one of the most powerful artifacts in Christianity, the Lance proved to be very volatile. Any attempt to misuse its power led to catastrophic consequences, as the Nazis discovered during World War II. After locating the tip of the Spear, they attempted to transport the artifact to Germany for Hitler’s use in the war. However, while crossing Russian waters, something went terribly wrong and the Spear turned on the crew. As the crew panicked at the Spear’s powers, they began firing in all directions, causing bullets to ricochet off the walls and kill each other, also causing the ship to sink and the tragic deaths of the fifty-two men on board.

Bestiary

The Bestiary is an ancient book kept in the Labyrinth. This book is used to control demons by reading aloud their names. Lara, as a child, performed this act to control Vladimir Kaleta, whose demonic name was Verdilet. This mysterious tome holds ancient secrets that allow those who possess it to exercise dominion over supernatural creatures, revealing the unique connection between arcane knowledge and the control of forces beyond our comprehension.

Iris

Iris, an ancient artifact that was found in Angkor Wat (Cambodia) by Werner Von Croy and a young Lara Croft. Werner Von Croy was trapped in his chamber after he tried to retrieve it.

Years later, when Lara was already an adult, she stole it from Werner’s company, Von Croy Industries. Here was revealed the powers possessed by this artifact, teleportation.

Weapons

In the game, Lara will be able to carry up to 5 weapons (double 9mm pistols, shotgun, Uzis, MP5 and revolver). However, in this installment, we also find more tools to use, such as a laser sight to adapt the revolver and the MP5, as in previous installments, you can also use flares to illuminate dark places, use a helmet viewer in the levels of Von Croy Industries, which are useful to see the laser beams and communicate with Zip, a gun Lanza grappling hook to cross distances swinging, and finally, you can use binoculars to observe in the distance.

As a bonus, an item was included in the inventory menu, which is based on an object that was marketed, and is the Timex-TMX, which simply serves to see the statistics of the game.

Outfits

In Tomb Raider: Chronicles, we see stories of Lara in different times, in each of them with a different outfit: classic outfit in Rome, camouflage outfit in the Russian submarine, child’s outfit in the cursed island and finally, infiltration outfit in the Von Croy Industries.
