First Season for Amazon Prime Video
Yesterday, it was finally made official who will play Lara Croft in the live-action series for Amazon Prime Video: Sophie Turner, whose casting had already been rumored in recent months, especially after the actress shared a photo of her new physical training progress.
Amazon MGM Studios confirmed that filming for the Tomb Raider series will begin on January 19, 2026.
Sophie Turner stated the following in an interview:
I am thrilled beyond measure to be playing Lara Croft. She’s such an iconic character, who means so much to so many – and I am giving everything I’ve got. They’re massive shoes to fill, following in the steps of Angelina and Alicia with their powerhouse performances, but with Phoebe at the helm, we (and Lara) are all in very safe hands. I can’t wait for you all to see what we have cooking.
The project promises a large-scale adventure with humor, staying true to the legacy of the iconic video game character. Vernon Sanders of Amazon praised the choice of Turner and the leadership of Waller-Bridge. Jonathan Van Tulleken will direct the series, and Chad Hodge joins as co-showrunner. Production is being handled by Amazon MGM Studios, Crystal Dynamics, and Story Kitchen, with a strong team of executive producers and representatives involved.
